Money Talks...U.S. Currency Coins and Notes Trivia

Money Talks Trivia

U.S. currency is produced by the Bureau of Engraving, and Printing and U.S. coins are produced by the U.S. Mint.  Both organizations are bureaus of the U.S. Department of the Treasury. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) manufactures paper money. It also redesigns money with new appearances and enhanced security features. BEP includes security features to prevent counterfeiting.

Most people never take into consideration the lifespan of the banknotes and coins that circulate in the marketplace every day. When you consider that most banknotes are made from cotton paper sometimes mixed with linen, abaca, or other textile fibers, you come to realize that banknotes must be able to withstand a great amount of wear and tear during their limited lifespan.

As the circulated currency is deposited with a Federal Reserve Bank, it undergoes a sophisticated evaluation of its condition and a determination is made as to whether its quality standards meet the criteria for it to remain in circulation. If you have paper money that is mutilated or extremely damaged, you can redeem it with the BEP.

Let's see what you know, or think you know, about the currency you use every day. Check out this video!
